Chucky: The Complete Collection Blu-ray

chucky complete bluIf you’re a horror fan you’re well aware of the Child’s Play/Chucky series. The latest film Curse Of Chucky has been released on Blu-ray and simultaneously a box set containing all 6 films. What is interesting is Curse Of Chucky is the first in the series to not see a theatrical release, probably because of diminishing returns based on the previous two films where were a bit of a deviation from the original formula, but still made money.

Chucky: The Complete Collection gathers up the previously released Blu-rays and puts them in one convenient package. If you have been picking up the films on Blu-ray there isn’t anything in this set you’ll need to pick up, provided you purchase Curse Of Chucky to complete your set. If, however, you only have a couple of the films this makes for a good investment.

And yes, this is for fans. If you’re not sure if the Child’s Play/Chucky franchise is your cup of tea, then rent the first and 4th films. The style changes dramatically over the course of the franchise which isn’t unheard of. Horror franchises have a history of reinventing themselves and what is interesting is the same writer (Don Mancini) and producer (David Kirschner) have been involved in the whole of the series.

There are no new special features in this set, but everything from the previous Blu-rays also show up here. This also means on a couple of the discs there’s nothing other than the film’s trailer.

As a collection of previously released material Chucky: The Complete Collection is pretty decent. On one hand it would have been nice to have a disc of new material looking back on the franchise or perhaps adding some audio commentaries where there are none, but on the other hand it’s nice that fans aren’t forced into buying the set if they already own most of the films.
