Ranking The Beatles: Revolver (Beatles Week 2016 Day 8)

Please see my introduction and explanation about this project here.

The Beatles were really beginning to stretch what could be done in the studio and their songwriting had begun to evolve at this point. Individually I like the songs, but as an album I am tired of Revolver. It was one of the first albums I ever purchased (on cassette) and then when it was released on CD in 1987 it was the first Beatles album I purchased in that format and was, for the longest time, the only Beatles CD I had and listened to it endlessly.

Presented in order from least to most favorite, in a highly subjective (and subject to change) manner:

“Doctor Robert”
The most standard song on the album
“I’m Only Sleeping”
I can totally relate to this
“And Your Bird Can Sing”
A wierd but cool tune
“Eleanor Rigby”
A tough tune to play on the guitar
“For No One”
I like this song but don’t know what to say about it
“Love You To”
Some cool instrumentation here
“Taxman”
A biting commentary on the tax system
“Here, There and Everywhere”
A lovely sentiment
“Tomorrow Never Knows”
I like how they are stretching not just instrumentation but also lyrical content
“I Want to Tell You”
Reminiscent of songs from a few albums previous
“She Said She Said”
I like this one more and more as time goes on
“Good Day Sunshine”
A ridiculously positive song
“Yellow Submarine”
How fun is this song?
“Got to Get You into My Life”
This song is about 10 years ahead of its time
